British Heart Foundation Afan Team Challenge
On Sunday 2nd October, 8 teams answered the British Heart
Foundation's challenge – ‘Are You Tough Enough’? The day started at
8.00am in Margam Park with a 5km run. The second stage was a cycle
up to the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre. A different type of
challenge was next on the list with the teams having to memorise a
poem and recite it back to the organisers. Stage four was an 8km
river bed run down to Pontrhydyfen and back again, crossing the
Afan River three times. Then came a deserved break for lunch.
The teams were then back on their bikes cycling across to the
Gnoll Country Park, where they tackled another run before ferrying
their team across the Gnoll Pond in rafts to the finish line. The
winners were ‘The Cymmer Warriors’ who completed the event in 4
hours 40 minutes, beating a joint team of firemen and policemen,
‘The Have a Go Heroes’, by only 27 seconds. The real winners were
the ‘British Heart Foundation’ who raised £10,000 from the
inaugural event.
