Forest Park proves to be a hit with locals…

Afan Forest Park recently held a series of fun events and activities for the residents in the Forest Park. The week turned out to be a great success, with many local people turning up for many of the organised activities arranged by Neath Port Talbot Council and Forestry Commission.

Highlight of the week for many were the minibus tours that went deep into the Forest Park, but equally as popular were the many other events that took place.

Emma Thomas, Afan Forest Park’s Project Co-ordinator was delighted with the response to the community campaign: “The mini bus tours proved to be very popular and we are hoping to run more soon. Also, many of the locals believe that Afan Forest Park is now a better place to live than 5 years ago, in particular the development of the mountain bike routes, which the survey results indicated has been a good thing for the local area”.

The Children’s Activity Day also proved to be a very popular event, where many young local children brought their parents along with them. At this event they had the chance to explore the forest and take part in woodland activities and games. There was also a ‘Live’ broadcast from the Wave, which helped raise Afan Forest Park’s profile across South Wales.

The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness of the Forest Park and all the outdoor activities it can offer, such as mountain biking, walking, fishing and horse riding. Also, to showcase many of the exiting developments taking place in the area.
