Arts Development Service
This year Community Arts Development is entering a new era where
funding is being actively sought to work with all age ranges.
Recent projects have included a graffiti wall at Sandfields
Library, a heritage event at the Gwyn Hall, Neath, drumming
workshops, dance for primary schools and sand sculpting at the
Aberafan Beach Festival. Projects being developed include a
reminiscences project in the Dulais Valley and The Big Draw.

From street dance and DJ workshops to film making and community
music projects, Neath Port Talbot Arts Development Service has
spent the last three years organising and facilitating
participation in creative arts and media activities in Neath Port
Talbot.
Hundreds of young people (aged 13 - 25) have enjoyed the
opportunity to try arts activities in the borough thanks to Neath
Port Talbot County Borough Council and Arts Council of Wales
funding.
Projects have included ‘Breakneck’, a brand new dance
presentation put together with choreographers at Tan Dance which
resulted in a public performance at Pontardawe Arts
Centre; various urban art installations; band nights in both
Neath and Port Talbot; a rock orchestra performance in the
Gwyn Hall; radio and
scripting projects plus the writing, development, filming and
production of a
massive film
project ‘What Goes Around’ which was premiered in a Hollywood style
event in the Apollo Cinema in Aberavon. The film is currently
available to buy on DVD (with free music CD featuring a host of
local bands) from libraries across the county borough.

Trolleywood
Trolleywood is an ongoing new media and creative arts project
which has already produced a film which starred, and was written
by, young people from Neath Port Talbot, a radio play to be
broadcast by Afan FM and is currently putting together
ideas and a working group to develop a new film.
Soundscape
Soundscape is
a musical collective put together to promote and enhance music
making throughout the Neath Port Talbot area. Current Soundscape
projects include ‘Last One Standing’ a radio-based battle of the
bands competition on Afan FM, DJ workshops at the Port Talbot YMCA
and several concerts and gigs throughout the borough.
Afan FM
Neath Port Talbot’s Community Arts Development Service is
actively involved with the development and promotion of
Afan FM a community
based youth radio station based in Port Talbot. Support this brand
new station on 87.7 FM throughout April.
