Year nine secondary school pupils
Africa's Hope, the heart rendering story of events which led to the deaths of more than 800,000 Rwandans, the aftermath and the road to a more stable future, was performed by the Mashirika Youth Theatre Group to all year nine secondary school pupils this week.
The senior prefects of each school were then be invited to join members of the youth group, who are all survivors of the 1994 genocide, at a workshop that will give them opportunity to develop projects to help forge links between the county borough and African schools.
Leader of Neath Port Talbot Council, Derek Vaughan, said the event helped to celebrate cultural diversity.
"This production helps get the message across to the young people of the borough that genocide should not be tolerated in the world to day," he said. "The cast do, however, promote the positive message that there is hope for the future.
"Raising awareness of world events through the medium of music and dance is an excellent way of teaching the young people of the borough."
