Community Safety

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a joint statutory duty on local authorities and the Police service to tackle crime and disorder. The Community Safety Team work in partnership with the police, statutory and voluntary agencies, the business community and local community groups to co-ordinate and implement a range of crime prevention initiatives based on crime and disorder issues in the area.

From April 2008, a Strategic Assessment will be carried out on an annual basis by Safer Neath Port Talbot (Safer NPT) Partnership. The completion of a strategic assessment is governed by The Crime and Disorder (Formulation and Implementation of Strategy) Regulations 2007 which came into force in Wales on the 1st November 2007. This replaces the need to produce a three year strategy but instead requires the production of a triennial rolling partnership plan, reviewed annually. The strategic assessment is an analysis of the levels and patterns of crime, disorder and substance misuse in the area, which informs the priorities the Community Safety Partnership should adopt to address those matters.  The partnership plan outlines a strategy for delivering identified priorities and also recognises individual agencies’ roles in the implementation of the plan.

The aim of the strategic assessment is to provide Safer NPT with an assessment of current, emerging and long-term issues affecting the Neath Port Talbot area which will be considered in conjunction with national priorities.  Collectively, this will provide opportunities for enforcement, prevention, reassurance and identify any intelligence requirements.

These pages provide details of the partnerships aims and objectives, information on relevant organisations and contact details. If you have any comments or suggestions, please add them to the feedback form.
