About the dog wardens
Who we are
Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council employs two dog
wardens who are trained and experienced in a wide range of
activities to encourage responsible dog ownership.
These include collecting strays, microchipping dogs to make sure
they can be easily identified, and returning dogs if they are found
straying.
They work closely with other organisations such as the
Dogs Trust, RSPCA and the Police.
What we do
Neath Port Talbot's Dog Warden Service carry out a variety of
tasks.
Here are some of our duties:
1. Impound Stray Dogs
- - that are found on the highway, public footpaths and other
pedestrianised areas. If a dog is found straying on more than one
occasion, or if it doesn't have an identity tag the dog will be
taken to kennels.
- The owner risks having to pay a minimum of £43.82 kennelling
fees.
- The dog warden makes every effort to find the owner of the dog
before impounding the dog.
2. Enforce The Law
- Enforce dog fouling laws on highways, public footpaths and
other pedestrianised areas.
- The council encourages responsible dog ownership and urges
local dog owners to clean up after their pets.
- Owners caught allowing their pets to foul on public land, could
face a £25 on the spot fine.
- You risk prosecution if your case is taken to court. You could
be fined up to £1,000.
- All dogs must have a collar and I.D. tag.
3. Co-Operate
- We co-operate with local animal welfare organisations and the
police to ensure the well being of dogs.
4. Advise and promote
- Advise and promote dog welfare issues
- Microchipping of dogs
- work in partnership with the Dogs Trust in the promotion of
dog neutering
