Foot and Mouth Disease

‘Foot and Mouth’ is a contagious disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals, in particular cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and deer.

All people that keep ‘at risk’ animals should remain vigilant for signs of the disease and should maintain a high level of biosecurity to reduce the risk of contamination. The Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) website is regularly updated with guidance and advice on control measures, and updates of the latest situation. (www.defra.gov.uk)

Neath Port Talbot has an established contingency plan should it need to be implemented. The Council urges all residents to remain vigilant to any breaches of livestock movement, and encourage anyone viewing any potential breaches to call on trading standards on 01639 764325
